Dutch Oven

Kids Cooking with an Outdoor Dutch Oven
Cooking Up A Dutch Oven Dinner

Don't confuse Dutch Oven kitchen cooking with Dutch Oven camping cooking. There are two different Dutch Oven pots, and they don't switch over very well.

A kitchen Dutch Oven has a flat bottom, so it sits flats on the oven racks. Outdoor Dutch Ovens have little legs on the bottom. This gives the outdoor Dutch Oven some lift, so coals can be placed under the oven with heat from the bottom and top.

My top pick for camping Dutch Oven is the Lodge six quart. It's not too big but not too little either. The quality is excellent, so it cooks great and also holds the seasoning.

The boys enjoy breaking out the Dutch Oven and cooking up a meal in the fire pit in the side yard. They test out recipes at home and then cook up meals at camp. They've even won some awards for their Dutch Oven recipes.
